Homemade Doner Kebab with Chips
This recipe is a fakeaway version of a takeaway Doner Kebab, usually served in a tray with chips, fresh salad and slices of kebab meat. The dish is dairy-free and gluten-free.

Ingredients (serves 2)
For the kebabs
500g lamb mince
1 medium-sized onion
2 cloves of garlic
1 egg
1 tbsp ground coriander
1 tbsp cumin
1 tbsp oregano
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
For the salad
1/2 red onion
1 Tomato
1 inch slice of cucumber
1 gem or iceberg lettuce
For the spicy sauce
3 tbsp salad cream
2 tbsp mayonnaise
3 tbsp medium chilli sauce
For the chips
4 unpeeled potatoes
Oil, for deep frying
For serving
dairy-free coleslaw

To cook
1. Grate the onion into a large bowl.
2. Add the mince.
4. Add the garlic, ground coriander, cumin, oregano, salt and pepper.
5. Mix by hand and divide into 2 pieces.
6. Oil 2 baking trays and thinly spread the mixture. Place in an oven at 200c.
7. Cut potatoes into 1cm thick chips.
8. Chop the red onion, tomato, cucumber and lettuce.
9. Make the sauce by mixing the salad cream, mayonnaise and chilli sauce in a separate bowl.
10. Cook the chips in the oil until browned.
11. Place the chips on serving plates.
12. Add the lettuce and tomatoes.
13. Add the onion and cucumber.
14. Add the coleslaw.
15. When the kebab trays have browned, remove from the oven. Use tongs and scissor to cut the meat.
Alternatives
The sauces can be replaced with whichever ones you prefer. The kebab meat is not spicy so if you prefer milder flavours, lower the chilli sauce levels or serve with a milder alternative such as minty yoghurt sauce.
An alternative (or accompaniment) to chips would be to serve the same dish rolled up in a naan bread.
