A fakeaway version of the classic takeaway dish. Perfect for tray-style service with crispy chips, salad, and spicy sauce.

Ingredients

For the Kebabs
  • 500g lamb mince
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp ground coriander
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
For the Salad
  • 1/2 red onion, 1 tomato, 1 inch cucumber, lettuce
For the Spicy Sauce
  • 3 tbsp salad cream, 2 tbsp mayonnaise, 3 tbsp medium chilli sauce
For the Chips & Serving
  • 4 unpeeled potatoes
  • Dairy-free coleslaw, Sriracha sauce

Method

Step 1: Prep Onion
Grate the onion into a large bowl.

Step 2: Add Mince
Add the lamb mince to the bowl.

Add the egg.

Step 4: Spices
Add the garlic, ground coriander, cumin, oregano, salt and pepper.

Step 5: Divide
Mix by hand and divide into 2 pieces.

Step 6: Bake
Oil 2 baking trays and thinly spread the mixture. Place in an oven at 200°C.

Step 7: Cut Chips
Cut potatoes into 1cm thick chips.

Chop the red onion, tomato, cucumber and lettuce.

Step 9: Spicy Sauce
Make the sauce by mixing the salad cream, mayonnaise and chilli sauce in a separate bowl.

Step 10: Fry Chips
Cook the chips in the oil until browned.

Place the chips on serving plates.

Add the lettuce and tomatoes.

Add the onion and cucumber.

Add the coleslaw.

Step 15: Prep Meat
When the kebab trays have browned, remove from the oven. Use tongs and scissors to cut the meat.

Cut the kebab meat into 2cm strips.

Add the kebab meat to the plates.

Drizzle the spicy sauce.

Microwave each plate for 1 minute to recreate the takeaway feel. Drizzle with Sriracha sauce and serve.

Alternatives

The sauces can be replaced with whichever ones you prefer. The kebab meat is not spicy so if you prefer milder flavours, lower the chilli sauce levels or serve with a milder alternative such as minty yoghurt sauce. An alternative (or accompaniment) to chips would be to serve the same dish rolled up in a naan bread.
