Chinese Beef and Broccoli
This quick and easy stir-fry features a sweet and rich flavor profile that pairs wonderfully with boiled rice or plain noodles.
Ingredients
- 250g beef steak
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp fish sauce
- 1/2 red pepper
- 1 baby sweetcorn
- 4 baby broccoli sticks
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
- 100ml water
- 1 chicken stock cube
- 2 tsp brown sugar
- 2 tsp cornflour
Method
Step 1: Slice the Beef
Slice your beef steak joint carefully into thin, tender strips.
Step 2: Sear Beef and Add Sauces
Heat the oil in a hot pan or wok. Fry the steak strips alongside the fish sauce until nicely browned on all sides. Slide in the red peppers, followed closely by the dark soy, sweet chilli, and rich hoisin sauces.
Step 3: Add Fresh Greens
Toss your cut baby sweetcorn, crisp morning glory, and fresh baby broccoli sticks straight into the cooking skillet.
Step 4: Pour Thickening Slurry and Simmer
Whisk the chicken stock cube, cornflour, and brown sugar smoothly into your 100ml of water. Pour the thick mixture straight into the pan and leave to simmer gently for 3 minutes until rich and glossy.
Step 5: Dish Up
Serve up immediately over steaming bowls of fluffy boiled rice or warm plain noodles.
